Accounting I will allow students to learn accounting terminology, principles, and procedures as they relate to a proprietorship, a partnership, and a corporation.  The study of accounting will prepare students for accounting careers and for personal use.  Throughout the course students will apply skills learned to the automated accounting software.   In addition, a four-week computer simulation will be completed during second semester.                                                FEE:  $20
Prerequisite:  C or better in math courses.   Credit:  1

PERSONAL FINANCE
 
Personal Finance allows the student to explore personal financial decision-making.  It also helps individuals use skills in money management, record keeping, banking, and investing.  This course accomplishes this by the study of basic concepts involving economics, insurance, banking, credit, stocks and bonds, and other related topics.  Activities will include preparation of budgets, consumer skills, checking accounts, investment applications, comparison shopping, advertising research, standard of living analysis, and comparison of housing options.

TECHNOLOGY DISCOVERY
 
This course is designed to allow students to explore differing technological areas and developments by providing hands-on experiences in approximately sixteen units.  The student will be utilizing current technical equipment and software in a high-tech setting.  Units of exploration include audio/video communications, laser, electronics communications, robotics, engineering structures, electronics, biomedical, environmental, manufacturing management, CADD, production/processing, satellite communications, and aerospace technologies.  The course enhances the 7th and 8th grade Tech-Prep programs and prepares students for advanced technology courses available in grades 10-12.

WORD PROCESSING
 
This course prepares the student with word processing skills for personal use, use in the work place, and use in post secondary education.  Introductory keyboarding skills are refined through continued use of the keyboard.  The student's use of formatting techniques is enhanced through the creation of documents such as letters, reports, memos, and tables.  Through document preparation, students' master specialized software functions.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING I
 
This course offers the student the opportunity to use keyboarding and word processing skills in the production of business documents such as flyers, letterheads, business cards, report covers, newsletters, and pamphlets.  Graphic design and page layout techniques are emphasized.

Desktop Publishing II is designed to provide additional training in Desktop Publishing I concepts.  The students will develop the skills needed to use information tools such as Internet, CD-ROM, etc., to produce original projects using advanced skills.

WEB PAGE DESIGN
 
Web Page Design I is an introductory course that examines basic Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) editors and web publishing software (FrontPage).  Course skills will include learning the essential ways to develop web sites.

DIGITAL MEDIA
 
This course is designed to introduce students to various forms of digital media.  Students will learn to use software to develop graphics, animation, and maintain the school's website, itawambaahs.com.

Research Using Technology's Information Tools 
This course is a continuation of digital media. Students will become responsible and ethical users of technology while being encouraged to stay current as emerging technologies develop.  Students will maintain the school's website, itawambaahs.com.

BUSINESS LAW
 
Business law provides the basic foundations of law as it relates to business.  The origin of the law, ethics, the structure of the court systems, procedural and employment law, and legislation that applies real and personal property are all studied within this course.  Students will be required to complete projects such as research laws from inception to implementation, prepare organizational charts for state and federal court systems, and conduct mock trials.

KEYBOARDING 
 
Keyboarding provides the student an opportunity to master the touch method.  Keyboarding skills for entering the alphabetic, numeric, and symbolic information on a keyboard and a ten-pad key are discussed.  Emphasis is placed on developing proper speed and accuracy techniques.  Students format documents such as letters, memos, reports, and tables for personal, educational, and business use.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 
 
This course is designed to provide each student with essential introduction skills necessary to use computer hardware and software in daily life and work.  Emphasis is place on common applications including (DOS) disk operating systems, word processing, database management, and spreadsheet making.
