 Art I serves as an introduction to Art history and production.  Class work is centered on developing natural talent through drawing still life, portraits, landscapes, and abstracts. There is an emphasis on creativity and composition using the elements and principles of design.

ART II
 This course emphasizes the development of creative and intellectual development through visual arts learning.  The class will center around seeing art as the embodiment of an ideal or the reflection of social values.  Students will compare and contrast art in terms of history, aesthetics, and culture.
Prerequisite:  Portfolio of work consisting of five pieces of art.  Size of work must be at least "11 X 14."  Must have passed Art I with at least a B.

CHORAL MUSIC
 Choral music is designed to enhance students' vocal music skills. The primary purpose is to develop fundamentals of musical technique and learn music theory. Choral students will also prepare for performances during the year.

Theory and Harmony Literature
This course examines the basic elements of music theory and music literature. Previous choral or instrumental music performing experience is a prerequisite for admission to this course. The analytical study of scales, keys, chords, and composition elements complements other high school music performance courses. A survey of music literature will broaden student knowledge of music as an art form, and will aid understanding of the connection between music theory  and music literature. The survey of music literature will also involve the historical and cultural background of the various genres of music.

Text Box: INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE ARTS
 Class serves as an introduction to the dramatic arts. Students begin with an overview of the history of theatre. Other units cover the structure and styles of drama, evaluation of drama, and fundamentals of play production and acting. Students will be required to see and participate in a variety of dramatic experiences including a monologue and presentations to develop an appreciation for this art form. Students should be prepared to do a one-minute memorized monologue at the end of the year.

ADVANCED THEATRE ARTS I
Class will serve as an introduction to the dramatic arts and will include all the assignments in the Theatre Arts I class.  However, in Advanced Theatre Arts I, students will be REQUIRED to participate as more emphasis will be given to acting throughout the year.  Students will be required to do a monologue each nine-week period and will also have to participate in class acting assignments.
Prerequisite: Completion of Intro. to Theatre class, audition/interview, references from two prior teachers.

THEATRE ARTS II
This course is a second-year acting program intended for the serious drama student only.  Students will be required to have taken Theatre Arts I to be accepted into this class.  They will also have to audition/interview with the teacher.  Students will work on an array of projects over the course of the year.  Students will read and interpret an array of plays and will be required to do a monologue per week.  Students will also participate in a one-act play to be presented in the library to other classes.

BAND
The IAHS band is comprised of students in grades 9-12. The Marching Band performs in the fall at football games and marching festivals. In the spring, the band works on concert music. Students in band experience the enjoyment of music and develop musical skills that will last a lifetime.
