Cheryl Oswalt


Cheryl Graham Oswalt is a 1977 graduate of Tremont High School.  During her time at Tremont, she was elected Miss Tremont High School, a member of the Hall of Fame, and Valedictorian. After high school, she graduated from Itawamba Community College with her Associate of Arts degree before completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Blue Mountain College in 1980.  She earned her M. Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Mississippi in 1992. In 1980, she began her teaching career at Fairview School teaching special education for 6 years.  She then spent two years there teaching elementary students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders. In 1988, she transferred to Fulton Grammar School where she taught Kindergarten for 9 years. In 1997, she transferred again, this time to Itawamba High School where she teaches special education. Since 2009, she has occasionally served as an adjunct faculty member for Itawamba Community College teaching child development classes through their eLearning division. She is married to Danny Oswalt. Their family includes two children, Anna Catherine Daher (and her husband Jamal Daher) and Jon Ryan Oswalt (and his wife Dr. Katie Oswalt).  She has four grandchildren, Scarlett Daher, Ruby Daher, Finn Oswalt and Rosalia Oswalt. A strong proponent of and advocate for public education, Mrs. Oswalt has dedicated 42 years to the Itawamba County Schools.  She followed the example of her parents and one brother who were both educators in the county. Additionally, her husband continues to serve as a teacher after 37 years in the school district.  Her daughter teaches in the Monroe County Schools, her son is an administrator with the West Point Consolidated Schools, and her daughter-in-law works in the College of Education at Mississippi State University.
